It is sometimes referred to as a \u201cnose job,\u201d \u201cnose reshaping\u201d or \u201cnasal surgery.\u201d Though some undergo this procedure for cosmetic purposes, others get it to reshape the nose after trauma to the face or to improve their breathing when running at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ualbanysports.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University at Albany Track and Field Complex<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this post, we review everything you need to know about rhinoplasty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-consultation\">The Consultation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/albanyentandallergy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/exercise-jogging-sinus-health.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3287\" width=\"292\" height=\"194\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you get the surgery, you\u2019ll meet with your surgeon so they can review your medical history, take photos and discuss your goals. They may ask about your:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Skin type.<\/li><li>Ethnic background.<\/li><li>Age.<\/li><li>History of surgery or trauma.<\/li><li>History of breathing <a href=\"https:\/\/albanyentandallergy.com\/ent\/deviated-septum\/\">problems<\/a> or nasal obstructions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>During this appointment, they\u2019ll also discuss with you the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/treatment-tests-and-therapies\/nose-reshaping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">various types of nasal surgery<\/a>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Nasal septoplasty.<\/li><li>Inferior turbinate reduction.<\/li><li>Nasal valve repair.<\/li><li>Cartilage grafts.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-procedure\">The Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first step of the procedure is to put you under either local or general anesthesia. Local anesthesia numbs the area that will be operated on, while general anesthesia puts you to sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, the surgeon will make an incision under the nose, as well as additional incisions inside the nose. They\u2019ll then remove cartilage and reshape the bone until they have reached the desired goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-recovery\">The Recovery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Immediately after surgery, a splint will be put on the nose to stabilize it, and packing will be placed inside the nose to prevent bleeding and drainage.
