Over 1/4th of all U.S Adults Suffer from Seasonal Allergies
Albany, NY-(May 9, 2023) According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention report, more than 1 in 4 adults suffer from seasonal allergies, the most prevalent allergic condition afflicting U.S. residents.
The study also analyzed pediatric allergy data and determined that nearly 1 in 5 children (19%) suffer from seasonal allergies. Also known as allergic rhinitis or hay fever, seasonal allergies can occur throughout the year but are most common in the Spring when the body’s immune system reacts to pollen from grasses and trees.
At Albany ENT and Allergy Services (AENT), the preeminent private otolaryngology and allergy practice in the Capital Region, this translates to the need to serve an enormous number of allergy sufferers. Fortunately, because of the experience and expertise of its highly trained physicians, AENT is more than ready to meet this year’s challenge. Dr. Lawrence Kaufman, a senior AENT partner, stated, “We are well prepared to offer the deserving residents of the Capital Region several effective clinical protocols so they will be able to have an excellent quality of life despite these circumstances”.
Seasonal allergy symptoms may include sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, watery eyes, and itching around the nose, eyes, and ears. CDC researchers found that the likelihood of suffering from seasonal allergies increases with age, from 10% of children aged five or younger to 24% of children ages 12 to 17. However, researchers found that the opposite occurs among adults, with nearly 25% of adults 44 and younger suffering from seasonal allergies, versus 22% of those 75 or older.
CDC researchers also found that seasonal allergies are more common among boys than girls, and among women than men.
