If you’re in the middle of a situation that requires immediate medical attention, it can be confusing to know where to go. Our Everett Road clinic has an ENT Urgent Care clinic that can be incredibly helpful in these situations. Here’s how to know when to come to us and when to seek help at the emergency room.
The Difference Between Urgent Care and the Emergency Room
Generally speaking, urgent care is the middle ground between your primary care provider and the emergency room when you require same-day care, but it’s not life-threatening. If the situation is life-threatening, you need to go to the emergency room.
Our ENT Urgent Care clinic operates on that same level—same-day, non-life-threatening needs—but specifically for conditions involving your ears, nose and/or throat. Like all urgent care centers, our ENT Urgent Care accepts walk-ins, and you do not need to be a patient of Albany ENT and Allergy to use our clinic.
The Benefits of a Specialized Urgent Care
It can be highly beneficial to visit a specialized urgent care center rather than a general urgent care clinic. If you know the condition in question is in a specific area of the body, it’s wise to seek out a specialist from the get-go. For example, if your child has an ear infection and it’s draining fluid, take them to an ENT urgent care clinic to ensure they’re seen by an ENT specialist.
Additionally, the narrower specialty of the clinic often means shorter wait times, which is a common complaint in general clinics.
Common Reasons to Visit ENT Urgent Care
Here are some examples of ENT conditions that aren’t life-threatening but require same-day care:

- Ear pain
- Ear infection
- Perforated eardrum
- Object stuck in the ear
- Sudden hearing loss
- Tinnitus
- Wheezing or difficulty breathing
- Sore throat
- Hoarseness
- Difficulty swallowing
- Sinus infection
- Nosebleeds
Our ENT specialists at our urgent care clinic specialize in these types of conditions.
When Your ENT Condition Needs Emergency Care
If your condition is life-threatening, you should go straight to the ER, even if you know the condition is in the ear-nose-throat system. You should also go to the ER if you have an underlying health condition that could complicate the ENT condition or affect treatment. Broken bones and head injuries, such as a nasal fracture, should also go to the ER to assess for traumatic brain injuries. In all other cases, however, our specialists are happy to help you.
Walk-in hours at our ENT Urgent Care are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and you can call us at 518-701-2123.
